Sin City
Tim Burton's "Batman" may have jump-started the comic book movie trend, but the "X-Men" and "Spider-Man" movies raised the bar for all comic-based projects to come. Hollywood is finally taking the genre seriously, hiring respected directors to film rich stories with complex characters. Currently, over a dozen comic book films are in the works, and this weekend's "Sin City" brings the gritty look of Frank Miller's graphic novel series to the screen in a comic adaptation like none before.

Big news -- obesity is the health crisis du jour, as evidenced by the recent flurry of headlines. What's the latest advice for those combatants in the battle of the bulge? Instead of counting carbs and calories, try nibbling flaky croissants and foie gras. Yes, according to lore and a new bestseller, if you really want to kiss your flab goodbye, take a lesson from the French. They don't diet, and they don't spend hours at the gym. So what's their secret? They eat for pleasure, savoring every bite. Now, that's some news we can really sink our teeth into!

Is your personal data safe online? The high-profile identity thefts making news recently have a lot of people concerned about the security of their private information. While the average Joe or Jane can't prevent corporate thefts, you can reduce the risk of being personally victimized by avoiding "phishing" scams, installing anti-virus and anti-spyware programs on your computer, shopping at trustworthy web sites, and closely reviewing your credit card statements and credit report. Don't get fooled by a "dot con"!

Capturing moments both intimate and historic, photojournalists provide the visual fodder that brings the news alive. A few are willing to risk their lives to photograph the horrific realities of war. Photojournalists on the frontlines offer a glimpse into unimaginable anguish, destruction, heroism, and redemption. From the rubble of Iraq to the refugee camps of Rwanda, they allow us to observe aspects of battle such as civilian casualties, military missions, collateral damage, and the duty of being a soldier.

EXPO 2005 opens today in Aichi, Japan, the latest in a long line of world's fairs that began over 150 years ago. A universal exposition is an opportunity for countries to showcase their cultures, products, and technologies. The Eiffel Tower, the Ferris wheel, and ice cream cones were all introduced at world's fairs. This year's theme, Nature's Wisdom, invites participants to leave a legacy of innovations that "foster a sound balance between human life and the environment."
