 Rage Against the Machine |
So your drummer is finally on board, and you've got that first rehearsal coming up, but wait a minute -- what the deuce are you going to name your band? You could keep the name obvious, like Rage Against the Machine (the machine being "the system," naturally) or Franz Ferdinand (the rather tragic archduke). Then there are the names that are probably a little too indelicate to describe here (Throbbing Gristle anyone? Or how about Fugazi?), but those lead to awkward conversations at family reunions. Why not get creative and go for something a little more obscure? Power-pop band Fountains of Wayne named themselves after an outdoor furniture store in New Jersey. Some artists get all literary on us, including Heaven 17 (after a fictional band in "A Clockwork Orange" by Anthony Burgess), Steppenwolf (named for a Hermann Hesse book), and Level 42 (taken from Douglas Adams). If all else fails, there are one or two random band name generators out there on the Web, which could come in very handy, especially if you're kinda emo.
