Flashback: What Was Your Favorite Toy?

Lots of Yuletide revelers have already hung their stockings with care. Yet, we bet that most of you are still wondering what to stuff inside those glorified socks or pile under that flashy tree. Our own quests to find the perfect kids' gifts got us remembering our favorite toys of Christmases past: from pogo sticks and pogo balls to cuddly Gloworms and the uplifting music of Rainbow Brite to Etch-a-Sketch and Lite-Brite. Back in the day, our moms were forced to buy sold-out Cabbage Patch Kids for ridiculous prices in the dark alleyways behind Toys 'R' Us. Luckily nowadays, if you missed out on Nintendo's Wii, you can drop your bankroll on eBay or Craigslist without leaving the house. But if you can get away with some of this year's lower tech must-haves, you might try to get your hands on Elmo TMX slated as "the most x-treme Elmo yet"; Butterscotch the hungry, life-size pony who whinnies and eats carrots; or the sturdy Kid-Tough digital camera. And when all else fails, there are some gifts that never go out of style: LEGOs, Play-Doh, and musical instruments.

Great post! I love all the links, esp retroland. I wasted way too much time on that site.

Okay, back to work.

Great links. Also really liked Retroland site. It was a totally "tubular" way to check out old favorites, and remember stuff that I'd forgotten about...

Retroland is the best site ever (and probably the only one which hasn't subjected me to pix of Britney's lady-bits before breakfast. For which i am eternally grateful). Thanx Retroland!
