 Scissors beats paper... |
The stranger faces me with steely eyes and a steady hand. We stare each other down for a count of three, then draw our weapons with lightning-quick fingers. His Scissors are speedy, but they are no match for my Rock. Another warrior falls on the road to glory.
Competitors from around the world will have a shot at the big time on Saturday night at the Rock Paper Scissors World Championships in Toronto. The world will be watching as these fierce competitors take the popular schoolyard game to a whole new level. Just like in the version that determines who has to wash the dishes, players pump their fists (or "prime") several times, then "throw" one of the three hand signs. But an individual throw is only a piece of the plan. Serious players have favorite gambits -- sets of three throws combined in a strategic order, like Paper Dolls (paper-scissors-scissors), Fistful O' Dollars (rock-paper-paper), or The Avalanche (rock-rock-rock). Though strategy will only get you so far. The world of competitive RPS requires careful observation of opponents, a practiced poker face, and nerves of steel. A catchy name or a clever costume wouldn't hurt, either.

This is how my 4th graders choose who goes first! They will be very excited to see there is a future in rock, paper, scissors if they keep practicing! LOL!
