John Ono Lennon was born on October 9, 1940, and like the concentric waves of a pebble dropped in water, we're still feeling the ripples left in Lennon's wake. As a member of The Beatles, he was a pioneer of rock 'n' roll, constantly changing the direction of his music. He pulled no punches with his lyrics, writing about his life and the world as he saw it with wit, passion, and even anger. Beyond that, he used his voice and celebrity to promote peace and tolerance in an era of war and social upheaval. With his wife, Yoko Ono, he staged nonviolent and sometimes outlandish events to start dialogues with the public. Anything from "bed-ins" to "bagism" -- Lennon didn't mind appearing foolish if it might do some good. In a Montreal hotel room in 1969, he recorded what became an anthem for the peace movement -- inviting us all to "Give Peace a Chance." His life was tragically cut short, but he left a legacy of actions, words, and music urging us all to imagine a better world.

I remember where I was and what I was doing the day John Lennon got shot. It was surreal and the older folks reminded me how it was like the assassination of JFK - everyone remembered what they were doing that day.

Peace, John. We love you.

He changed his middle name from "Winston" to "Ono" shortly after he got married.

One of the greatest R&R voices of all time in his prime. Just listen to those early records when he really belts it out. George Martin quote: " We had to do those rockers first because John's voice would be in shreads after a few takes".
Not to mention the music and lyrics. Too long a list to include here.

Goo,goo, ga,joob.....

The world might consider taking John's advice and truly give peace a chance. We night even decide that GLBT people are full citizens and realize that the hatred that this White House Administration has propelled towards Gays and Lesbians is not about Peace.
