We get a big kick out of massive holes broken in the walls, phony obituaries, and fake film trailers. While you won't catch us sporting designer Klansmen's outfits, these are a few of the pieces that we're excited about at the Whitney Biennial. This ongoing exhibition has defined trends in contemporary American art since 1932. For the first time ever, the museum brought in European curators, who picked artists from all over the world, another first for the Biennial. From paintings to pickled film, the Biennial boasts an eclectic spectacle, including funky furnishings and picketing bunnies. A rebellious theme is apparent with dashes of vulgarity, vandalism, and familiar dissent. Many of the artists freely comment on the social fabric of the U.S., whether it's politics, media, or mass consumption. A few artists even embedded the star-spangled colors and symbols of American nationalism into their quirky masterpieces. Whatever perspective you have on our nation, be assured, the Biennial is made to entertain.
